Well, it's Tuesday of the opening week of the SLUBA season and things are actually not going too badly. I'm facing the 2010 Champs - the Suns - and am holding my own, leading 8-2 (We're tied in wins and saves and I'm behind in strikeouts). There are still several very close categories,so with two days to play (the week "ends" on Wednesday this year) it's definitely not a lock.
I like my pitching staff (and have liked it for a few years now). I wish I could have kept Matt Cain, but the rule of 4 long term contracts squeezed him out. And this year I don't have a saves guy. So besides looking for a new third baseman to replace Juan Francisco (who?) I also need to watch for a closer.
The Flemingo's 5th round pick in the minor league draft of Gerrit Cole might have been a Very Good Idea(tm). I read an article where they were comparing him to Stephen Strasburg (but with a better change up and better mechanics). Nice!
The other thing that struck me about the 2011 Flemingos is that they are a very young team - only Neil Walker and Delmon Young were born in 1984 and will be long term players next season. This is the last year for Joey Votto and Jacoby Ellsbury's contracts - so there'll be room to keep Walker and Young if I want them.
